Deep Dive: Your Personal Finances
- Google Sheets™
- Excel Spreadsheets
Description
"Deep Dive: Your Personal Finances" is an eyeopener for students as they take a look at where their money is ACTUALLY going... not just where they THINK it is going. They will go through all of their transactions for the last 30 days, and list each transaction in the appropriate category. After going through all transactions and reviewing totals, students will answer review questions.
This assignment is set up in Google Sheets Workbook. The first sheet is a set up with categories and formulas to calculate totals for each category, along with a grand total. The second sheet is wrap up questions, asking students to reflect on their spending. The last sheet is an example.
This is a READY TO GO activity that takes NO PREP outside of posting to your LMS (Google Classroom, Schoology, ect). ALL STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS ARE INCLUDED. You/ students do not need to be proficient at Google Sheets to do this activity. Everything is color coded in the instructions.
I do this activity in my personal finance class as part of the unit over budgeting. However this would also be a good stand alone "Sub Day" activity for any point in the year.
