How I Use Word Cards and Picture Cards:
- Pocket Chart Picture-Word Match
Students take turns matching pictures and words on a pocket chart. - Word Sorting
Sort the words by ending/word family on the carpet, table, or on a pocket chart. - Memory Game
Turn all the cards upside down on the table or rug and have students take turns finding the picture-word matches. - Double-Sided Flash Cards
Fold the cards in half before laminating to create double-sided flash cards. Students read the word then turn the card over to use the picture to check their reading. - Word Work with Magnetic Letters
Stack the picture cards face down on the table. Students draw a picture card and build the word using magnetic letters. - Sounds and Syllables Word Wall
After introducing sounds and syllables, use the words to create a word wall in your classroom.
