Students who are learning how to read benefit from reading decodable texts. The purpose of decodable texts is to present students with texts that they are capable of decoding because they are presented only with the letter-sound combinations that they have been explicitly taught. This allows students to focus on the words on the page instead of relying on picture clues or guessing in order to read the text. These books do not use predictable text where the students can guess what the sentences say based on the format of the sentence on the previous page. This allows students to practice decoding based on the letter sounds that they have been taught.
By slowly scaffolding your students’ exposure to the new letters and new high-frequency words, students will truly be able to decode the majority of each book.
These decodable books support the Science of Reading and a systematic approach to teaching phonics.
Included in this bundle are 20 decodable readers that are appropriate for students who are developing their alphabetic knowledge.
The majority of the words in the books are CVC words. They will also be slowly introduced to high-frequency words.
Each book builds upon the skills and letters presented in the previous books.
