They will put on their detective hats as they dive into the case of "Santa's Stolen Cookies" to write a narrative story about who ate Santa's cookies before he arrived. These real-world formats will help young writers discover the powerful role that writing plays in our everyday lives and make writing an adventure.


These December Writing Prompts are designed in both the traditional Draw & Write format and in numerous everyday writing formats that children are likely to come across in their day to day lives. What does the product include?

This product includes 38 common core aligned writing prompts for the month of December on primary lined paper , regular lined paper, and in easy to cut and glue rectangles for writing journals. Each page is aligned to the following 3 Common Core Text Purposes: Opinion, Narrative, & Informative. A Temporal Words & Phrases sheet and a Linking Words sheet are also included for students to refer to when writing. Also includes Common Core aligned Student Writing Checklists for grades 1, 2, and 3.

How can I use them in the classroom?

Narrative, opinion, and informational writing are the central focus of the ELA common core writing standards. As such, students need daily practice writing within these text types. These December Writing Prompt pages can be used as morning work, during your guided or independent writing block, or at a writing center. Each writing prompt page can be printed front-to-back with an extra writing lines sheet to give young authors plenty of writing space.
