    Description

    This is a pair-pack of two movie guides that pair well together for the ELA classroom: The Dead Poets Society and Freedom Writers. Each film is about an English teacher who makes an impact upon students: One has an influence upon students in an elite boarding school and another reaches at-risk students (based on a true story). Both films are great for the purpose of inspiration, covering the powerful effect of literature, and the value of an education that impacts both the mind and the heart.

    For "Dead Poets Society," the film can be shown in any classroom for the purpose of inspiration, covering the value of poetry, and thinking critically about what makes a true education. The viewing guide is detailed and arranged in time-stamped sections. In addition to filling out the viewing guide questions, students will: Complete discussion questions that can be done individually or in small groups, do a character analysis, and be assessed with a quiz. These resources will help students to think deeply about the movie's rich themes.
