Description

Celebrate Hispanic multiculturalism through the beauty of the Day of the Dead.

Great for Spanish, history, and art teachers and more. Make a stunning display of student work. Math teachers can ask students to determine whether figures are symmetrical as well as identify shapes, angles, curves, and lines for younger students. These images can also be used to:

  • explore similar and different traditions inside and outside of the Spanish-speaking world
  • describe geometric characteristics with math vocabulary
  • provide TPRS prompts in foreign language classes
  • explore iconography in art
  • print multiple copies for use in matching games
  • compare and contrast the similar patterns
  • adapt as mazes
  • group images by different features in multiple ways
  • explore the representation of the human form in art
  • describe images with math vocabulary and measurements
  • compare and contrast designs across cultures
  • use images in visual math exercises
  • use as templates for creating 3-D models in media such as clay or wood in art or construction classes
  • share as prompts or provide as a selection of icons for projects where logos are necessary, e.g., create your own flag, society, brand, etc.

Appropriate for ages 8-80.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.
Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes (cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape.
Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, fourths, and quarters, and use the phrases half of, fourth of, and quarter of. Describe the whole as two of, or four of the shares. Understand for these examples that decomposing into more equal shares creates smaller shares.
Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
Partition a rectangle into rows and columns of same-size squares and count to find the total number of them.
