David Bouchard: I Am Raven - Reader's Theatre and Class Story Pole Project

David Bouchard and Andy Everson's brilliantly written and designed picture book, 'I Am Raven' lends itself perfectly for Readers Theatre where students can identify themselves as one of the characters in the story. The story is about a Chief who wants to build a memorial pole for himself but cannot decide which animals represent his true nature. One by one the animals try to convince him that they should be on the pole. In the end the Chief cannot choose and decides to have all the animals represented. This is where the students help create a class 'house post' or 'story pole' with the images of the animals which represent their characteristics.
