Daily Fix-It Sentences (Year-Long Editing Practice)
What educators are saying
Description
Included is an entire year (36 weeks) of Daily Fix-It Sentences with two sentences per day and 10 sentences total per week. An answer key is included for each week. I also included a (black & white and colored) cover page for the students. I have found this daily practice to be extremely beneficial, and have seen HUGE improvements in my students’ writing!
How to Use:
I use these “Daily Fix-It Sentences” as morning work in my class. The students have two sentences per day to edit for capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. My students know (as the routine as established) what to do when they arrive in the morning. They get out their “Daily Fix-It” morning work, complete it independently, and read if they are finished early. After about 10 minutes, I correct the sentences with the whole class using a blank copy projected on the board using my document camera. Students can come up and fix the sentences as they did on their worksheet, or I show the students how to correct it. I do a lot of modeling in the beginning of the year and spend time teaching the concepts. After correcting the sentences with my class, the students will shade in the boxes for the amount that they got correct. Students LOVE tracking their progress and setting goals for the coming weeks. With more independent or older students, you can have them correct their own using the answer key.
Three options for using:
-Give students that week’s sentences at the start of each week.
-All the pages may be copied at once and made into a packet for the year. (Cover page is included)
-Ten pages at time may be copied and made into a packet for quarterly booklets. (Cover is included)
