    Description

Are you looking for decodable reading resources to support your schools synthetic phonics program? If yes, then these decodable resources are for you. Decodable texts are expensive to purchase. I have made these to bulk up your collection, to go alongside the many decodable books out there on the market. It allows students to read a variety of sentences. All designed to complement any systematic synthetic phonics program and increase students fluency, automaticity and blending skills. Perfect for any Early Years classroom.

This bundle includes six of my decodable reading resources.

    • 2 of my Decodable Sentences on Keyrings Packs (Single sounds and Spelling Rules
    • Decodable Reading Strips
    • Decodable race tracks.
    • Decodable Yes/ No quiz
    • Decodable Habitats

Simply print, laminate and cut to prepare all four of these resources. The first three are available in Vic Cursive, Sassoon, NSW and QLD. The tracks come in Sassoon, NSW and QLD.

    Decodable Silly Sentences:

These are easily differentiated. The teacher is required to give each individual student the sentence construction template that states ‘I can make and read a silly sentence’ that they require, either set 1, 2 or 3, depending on their reading ability.

Set one focuses on all single sounds a-z- CVC

Set two focuses on CVC, CVC (adjective, noun) with some plurals +s.

Set three: CVC, blends, ck. Floss, oo, some bossy e and some multisyllable words (take out any cards that you have not yet taught, or any that are not relevant.

Each set contains a sentence building sheet with a black background or a white background for you to select from.Students simply turn over a card, match the colour and place it on their ‘I can make a read a silly sentence template’.

When all 1, 2, and 3 boxes are filled with cards, students read the sentence out loud. They can then record it on the optional recording sheet or make another sentence, if you only want to focus on reading skills and not writing. This can be played individually, with a partner or even in a small group. It can be played during literacy groups with a parent helper, aide or teacher group. It is all colour coded to make it easy for both you and your students.

    Decodable Race Car Tracks:

With over 250 decodable words included in my ‘Race Car Decodable Roads’ resource, this fun literacy group or small intervention group activity will sure to be a hit! The road pieces are sorted into 5 differentiated sections.

    The differentiated levels consist of:

Section 1- Short vowel sounds for all 5 vowels. The words in this section are mostly CVC words with some ck and floss spelling rules endings and a few plurals. Simply remove the words that are not relevant to your students- if this has not been explicitly taught.

Section 2- Words containing digraphs- sh, ch, th, wh

Section 3- Words with beginning blends

Section 4- Words with end blends.

Section 5- Words containing silent final e.

Please note: Some words included in this resource are nonsense words. I find it valuable to expose my students to nonsense words to see if students are applying their understanding of rules/ concepts, rather than relying on their memory- reading by sight.

    The decodable keyrings:

To prepare simply print, laminate and cut these strips and sort them into their colours. Then hole punch each strip in the centre of the coloured part and place a metal keyring on each colour, making a total of 15 differentiated keyrings that follow the order on the key provided, or you could make them into mini keyrings and add them to your take home reader box . Available in Vic Cursive, Sassoon, NSW and Qld fonts.

Follow the easy to read key to know what sounds/ rules are the focus in each colour! Parents love these are they are quick, simple to use and still allow students to work on their reading skills. It is great for vocabulary building as families can talk about words and their meanings.

Please note these do require the students to know some sight words such as to, do, the, said, they, you, my.

    Decodable Habitats:

This game comes in 4 differentiated levels making it easy for all of your students to work on at their point of need. There are 84 words to read in total in 4 fonts- Sassoon, Vic Cursive, Sassoon and Qld Beginners font.

    The four levels conist of:

    Level 1: CVC words

    Level 2: Beginning Blends

    Level 3: End Blends

Level 4: Digraphs with several words including blends (not all)

There are 3 habitats for each level. Print the coloured habitats up to A3. Print the animals onto A4 to play! There is also an optional recording sheet that comes with it, for students to work on recording the words as well but this is not essential.

To play: Turn over a card, read the word, sort it onto the correct habitat- the place that you think that animal might live. Record it on the recording sheet. Work together or by yourself- it is easily adapted the meet the needs of your students. There are 84 words included all together and I guarentee your students will love trying to solve the mystery of where each animal lives. Includes adorable clipart, easy to read fonts and comes with clear instructions. Perfect to integrate into a juniour year classroom learning about living/ non living things, life cycles etc.

The Yes or No Decodable Quiz

Your students will enjoy this decodable reading game. It is suitable for literacy groups, guided reading groups, small group intervention or one on one intervention. The idea of the game is that students turn over a card and read it and answer either yes or no to the question. Depending on the 3 recording sheets you select to use, the game works in slightly different ways but instructions are included in the Previews and if you chose to purchase this game. There are over 200 sentences to read to improve your students decoding, blending, fluency and automaticity.

It is available in 4 levels to suit the needs of your students.

    The four levels include:

    Level 1: CVC

Level 2: Beginning and End Blends

    Level 3: Digraphs

    Level 4: Spelling Rules

It is available in Sassoon, NSW, QLD and Kindy Font (Easy for any Early Years Learner to read).

There are 3 different templates that you can select from- a tick chart for yes and no answers, a tens frame for counters to be placed on depending on how many yes or no answers you get or a pile sort- yes or no.

Please note: Each question is colour coded. It is colour coded for the following reasons: 1. It makes it easier to differentiate. Eg. If you are in the 'lemon' reading group, you will be using the pink cards today, and then they can get started straight away.

    2. It makes it easier for students to pack up at the end of literacy groups, sorting the cards by colours and placing them back into their bags, storage tubs or placing an elastic band around them

    3. It helps you save time having to sort them, and not muddle up levels. This is important so students are working on a skill at their level.

If you wish for them to be black and white, simply print them in greyscale :)

Thank you and I hope your students love this game as much as mine do!

Optional: The questions can also be used as part of your morning routine. I have my students names on stones and they come into the classroom, read a question and place their stone in the yes or the no basket. Please note I only do this Term 3 and Term 4 and with over 200 words included- there will be a question for every day of the year if you chose to do this too!!

    The decodable reading strips

To prepare simply print, laminate and cut these strips and sort them into their colours.
