What educators are saying

My students loved this as a final project in our history unit. I loved seeing the creativity in the student's work. These instructions were very clear and easy for my students to follow and it had many different ideas the students could do to show their strengths and creativity.
Thank you for this! I am trying to find an alternative to National History Day that teaches the same standards but in a more engaging way. This is PERFECT.

Description

Looking to elevate student research in your ELA, History, or Art History classroom? This project based learning assignment is just what your students need! Students will be tasked with becoming a Museum Curator. They will create a cross genre research project to highlight a historical topic of their choice (or teacher choice).

Students will choose from a wide range of project ideas to ultimately create 6 sources to demonstrate their understanding of an important historical event. Students can choose from fiction, non-fiction, poetry, graphic aids, infographics, photo albums, lego creations, clay models, and so much more! This project is meant to provide differentiation in the classroom to serve all students, from struggling learners to GT students. Student choice is a driving force in student engagement, and as curators they get to choose how to create and showcase their exhibit in a unique, rigorous, learning experience.

Everything you need is here!

-Introductory slides presentation

-Detailed student brainstorming handouts

-Project rubric

-An assignment for students to use on Exhibition Day to examine their classmates' assignments. This assignment is directed for students to explain what they learned from their peers’ exhibits versus evaluating them.

-Student Self-Reflection handout

-Extended learning assignments: Poem and informational text analysis, on the topic of museums and curators (comprehension questions and answer keys included)

-Google Site template to showcase student exhibits virtually (to share with administrators and parents)

This engaging project could be used for any research project or topic. It could also be used as an end of year summative learning assignment. We promise, you have never seen a project quite like this!
