Cultural Literacy Activities Bundle - What Do You Know?

These “What Do You Know?” cultural literacy questions challenge your students to learn about people/places/things/events that happened prior to today’s modern culture and give them a better advantage to be smarter and more productive members of a society that moves faster than it ever has.

Just as knowing vocabulary allows a child to better comprehend what they are reading, there is a common core of background knowledge that also needs to be taught in order for a child to truly understand their culture.

I use these questions throughout the year, but I begin using them the first week of school. Be sure to check out the EIGHT “What Do You Know?” cultural literacy activities in my store:

They each have 20 questions. I always start off with the GEOGRAPHY questions. These are the basics every middle school/high school child should know. It amazes me how many of my kids can not name the seven continents or the five Great lakes at the beginning of the year. By the end of the year – they know all the answers!
