Description

Need strategies to promote critical thinking in your Third Grade music room? Want to encourage 21st century learning? This set includes:

*Discussion starters: Several questions are included for each of the following concepts: 4-beat meter (4/4), Ti-Tika (1 eighth/ 2 sixteenth notes), Tika-Ti (2 sixteenth/ 1 eighth note), Low La, and Low Sol, as well as a page of questions for various topics, such as instrument families and treble clef. The sheets are formatted so that you can check off the questions as you use them in your lessons, and teacher notes are included for many of the questions. A sheet is also included so you can list any additional questions you'd like to ask.

*Music journal starters: 9 sheets are included, as well as a music journal cover, which you could print off at the beginning of the year for each third grader or print off as you need them. The journal starters allow students to respond to music with art and with writing. Journal starters include creating art to demonstrate understanding of instrument families, Three sheets for response, One sheet for reflection on what each student would write if they were a composer, and a journal sheet for how students might compose music for Van Gogh's "Starry Night."

*Sentence starter signs: Can be printed out in color, laminated, and posted in your room to help students during class discussions. Signs include "I see," "I hear," "I notice," "I wonder," "I speculate," and "I observe." Note: The design for these signs is different from the designs included in the Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade critical thinking sets.

*Materials to accompany the set, including:
