Creative Writing English Curriculum w/ ESL-Friendly Journal Portfolio Theme

This 4-unit long English and Writing curriculum takes a whimsical yet powerful approach to purposeful writing to gear students at a early age to write purposely and succinctly, just how the SAT folks like it. Lots of opportunities to write and read better with journal reflections, proactive academic progress tracking, writing for a real audience, writing to explore your greater purpose in life, and, well more journaling, since practice makes purpose and writing in a “safe space” without critique is encouraged for true growth. Students will be empowered to be active learners. By writing and discussing interesting topics that can either be simplified or made more complex depending on age levels and abilities, this curriculum will engage students as writers and have them filling up loads of blank pages without them realizing they’re adhering to grammar standards, learning how to make a strong argument, and practicing how to think critically – perhaps for the first time. Grammar lessons are snuck into lessons seamlessly and students will most definitely practice their writing skills so high school and college papers one day in the distant future don’t seem as daunting and high school research is all the easier to comprehend. Wonderful lessons as well for ESL students because of their sheer simplicity and adaptability. Please adjust weeks and narrow down (or take a broader birds eye view) on presented topics as you see fit. Journals are recommended to be completed and submitted electronically, perhaps anonymously. Mentions of iPads throughout can be modified, but suggestions where tech is advised are included depending on type of assignment.
