    CAREERS BUSINESS FLYER

    OVERVIEW

    These common core hands-on career lessons that focus on student’s understanding the meaning of career vocabulary words; employer, employee, salary, and wage and then they take a quiz. Students will participate in creating a career business flyer that incorporates specific career information and then utilize a rubric to understand the expectation of the assignment.

    • Students will understand the importance of specific vocabulary and definition words relative to a paycheck and the business world.
    • Students will memorize the definitions of salary, employee, employer, and wage.
    • Students will participate in a group activity attempting to memorize the vocabulary definitions.
    • Students will take a quiz the next class with career vocabulary words and definitions.
    • Students will pick a career card from the teacher to determine their specific career for researching.
    • Students will research their career by utilizing a step-by-step worksheet.
    • Students will complete a career business flyer by applying the rubric expectations.

    CREATING A BUSINESS FLYER

    Overview

    You will design a general business flyer on an 8.5 X 11 Microsoft Word document, to advertise your business and your brand.

    Purpose

    Business flyers can be distributed in various locations and for any occasion.

    Requirements

    1. One-page flyer design on a Microsoft Word document

    2. Utilize the entire page, one side only

    3. 2 or more images, graphics, icons, or design elements

    4. 2 or more colors

    5. Business name, location, and contact information

    6. Short tagline, description, or advertisement of services

    Remembering 9/11 while creating a Business Flyer

    OVERVIEW

    This lesson focuses on students remembering 9/11 and gaining facts and research about what happened on that tragic event day. She students will have the opportunity to create a business flyer to inform others about the incidences of events throughout the day. This lesson could be for students that have already learned the basics of Microsoft WORD and/or students that are new to Microsoft WORD. Students will research information on the 9/11 website https://911memorial.org/ and provide facts and research on their 9/11 business flyer.

    • Paper and pencil to take notes during teacher instruction

    TIME 1 day for students that already know the basics of Microsoft WORD and 2 days for new students.

    STUDENT OBJECTIVES

    · Students will research the 5 topics on the 9/11 the website. https://911memorial.org/

    · Students will learn the basics of Microsoft Office WORD and/or review the basics of
    Microsoft WORD and incorporate it into a classroom activity that will summarize the
    9/11 event.

    · Students will review the business flyer rubric expectations and check off the tasks
    that they complete.

    · Students will create a 9/11 business flyer that summarizes the 9/11 event and
    provides colors, pictures, shapes, bulleting, bolding, italicizing, text, tables, font, font
    size, text boxes, shading, gradient, alignment, and text box line weight.

    Fun Halloween Party Business Marketing Microsoft Office WORD Flyer

    OVERVIEW

    This fun lesson focuses on students creating a business marketing flyer in Microsoft Office WORD. The students will have the opportunity to create a business flyer to inform others about the upcoming pretend Halloween party at the school. This lesson could be for students that have already learned the basics of Microsoft WORD and/or students that are new to Microsoft WORD. Students will follow all the specific steps on a rubric to understand the overall expectation.

    MATERIALS

    • Smart Board or Dry Erase Board

    • Computer

    • 8 ½ by 11 Paper

    STUDENT OBJECTIVES

    • Students will CREATE a Halloween Party business marketing flyer in Microsoft
      Office WORD.
    • Students will understand what MARKETING is, what is the purpose of marketing and the various ways to market events and products.
    • Students will understand the difference between FLYERS and FLIERS.
    • Students will understand what the word MANDATORY means and how the business world utilizes it consistently.
    • Students will understand how the business world is busy and it is important for
      employees to ACTIVE LISTEN the first time when bosses give directives.
    • Students will understand what a DIRECTIVE is and the focus that it plays in the
      business world.
    • Students will learn the BASICS OF MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD and/or review the basics of Microsoft WORD, while incorporating the knowledge learned into a fun classroom activity that will summarize the Halloween Party event.
    • Students will learn to COORDINATE an event using a checklist.
    • Students will complete a class activity by DRAWING A BLACK BIRD on an 8 ½ by 11- inch paper and placing the event information on the bird to use as a reference.
    • Students will review the CATCHY MARKETING PHRASES and add six of those
      phrases to their Halloween Party business marketing flyer.
    • Students will review the Halloween Party business marketing flyer RUBRIC
      EXPECTATIONS and check off the tasks when they complete them.
    • Students will create a Halloween Party business marketing flyer that SUMMARIZES THE EVENT and provides colors, pictures, page borders, shapes, tables, bolding, italicizing, text, font, font size, text boxes, shading, alignment, centering, gradient, and text box line weight.
    • Students will learn about SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS and compare it to Twitter and Raven.
    • Students will COMPLETE THE HALLOWEEN PARTY BUSINESS MARKETING FLYER and print them out to hang around the classroom or school.

    Halloween Dance Content Marketing Flyer with Digital Rubric

    OVERVIEW

    This fun lesson focuses on students creating marketing flyers in Microsoft Office WORD, while learning about content marketing.

    The students will have the opportunity to create a dance flyer to inform others about the upcoming pretend dance at the school. This lesson could be for students that have already learned the basics of Microsoft WORD and/or students that are new to Microsoft WORD. Students will follow all the specific steps on the rubric to understand the overall expectation.

    • Students will take notes and learn about content marketing and complete a class activity on the dry erase board.
    • Students will review the catchy marketing phrases and add five to their dance marketing flyer.
    • Students will review the dance marketing flyer rubric expectations and check off the tasks when they complete them.
    • Students will create a dance marketing flyer that summarizes the dance event and provide colors, pictures, page borders, shapes, tables, bolding, italicizing, text, font, font size, text boxes, shading, alignment, centering, gradient, and text box line weight.
    • Students will complete the dance marketing flyer and print them out to hang around the classroom.

    MICROSOFT OFFICE PAINT ASSESSMENT FOR WINTER

    This is an assessment for students to showcase their knowledge in Microsoft Office PAINT.

    • Students must follow the instructions on the rubric specifically to complete the assessment.

    • Not only is this an assessment, but the students enjoy this activity because it’s hands-on and extremely fun.

    • Place soft piano music in the classroom as the students are completing this assignment to reduce test anxiety. They enjoy the calmness as they are working and seem to focus more on their assignment.
