Creating Personalized Mandalas

Engaging art assignment in which students design and create a personalized mandala based on a culture of their choosing. The project allows the teacher to cover key aspects of the Elements and Principles of Design (e.g., balance, repetition, variety, shape, colour) in the Visual Arts curriculum. It is also very possible to integrate with the Mathematics curriculum. Mandalas lend themselves to rich discussions of radial balance, circle geometry, reflective and rotational symmetry, as well as provide hands-on practice with geometry tools such as rulers, compasses, protractors, and even Miras. Package also includes a series of Reflection questions for students to respond to following the completion of the assignment.
