Description

Scaffolded printables to guide every step of the survey process! Can be used for ANY survey design.

Designing a survey is an exciting way for students to conduct research and discover information about a group of people. Throughout the survey process, students have an opportunity to be creative, engage in problem solving and develop critical skills in analytical thinking. A powerful data-gathering tool, surveys are a thought-provoking and dynamic method of research that students love to engage in!

My goal in creating this resource is to set students up for success throughout the entire survey process. I noticed that my students loved designing questionnaires for people to complete – but became stuck when it came time to use the information they had gathered in a meaningful way. This motivated me to create a resource that clearly scaffolded the entire survey process, for both students and teachers, from start to finish.

This resource is divided into the following sections. Within each section are ready-to-print templates, information pages and activities:

Introduction to Surveys: Students will be introduced to the survey process and develop their own ‘Why’ for their survey. They will also explore the difference between a population and a sample.. An action plan template and teacher checkpoint page are included.

Designing an Effective Questionnaire: Information pages for a wide range of different question types are provided, including a ‘Questionnaire Quick Guide’ and ‘Tips for Writing Great Questions’ reference page. Students will draft their own questions and have a peer provide feedback before handing out the final questionnaire to their survey sample.

Organizing and Analyzing the Information: A sample questionnaire scenario is provided to show students how the analysis stage can be approached. A step-by-step guide is included to support students when analyzing their own information. Suggestions for communicating and sharing results are included.

Templates: General printable templates that can be used throughout the survey process are provided.

Vocabulary: A range of key vocabulary cards can be used in a variety of ways.
