What educators are saying

Such a fun way to teach students to write non-fiction. They loved doing the research and then making their own books. They turned out great!

Description

This 26-page, project (2 differentiated levels/versions) will help students create their own nonfiction animal book. The templates include planning sheets for the following components:

Cover
Title Page
Table of Contents
Informational Paragraphs and Illustrations (3-5 pages depending on level of students)
Who Would Win? Page (for advanced learners to apply knowledge)
Diagram
Glossary
Index
About the Author Page

Students must include the following nonfiction text features:
table of contents
bold words
headings
diagram(s)
glossary
index

There are 2 different versions of the project included.

Level 1:
Students research and write about 1 animal

Level 2: Students research and write about 2 different animals and then use the learned knowledge to predict which creature would win in a battle based on their features, adaptations, behaviors, etc...

"Things to Include Checklists" and Scoring Rubrics are also included.

I use this with my 3rd grade class, but content can be minimized to work with 2nd graders, as well. The Level 2 version would also be appropriate for 4th graders.
