What educators are saying

My students are LOVING this project. This is my wrap up unit for the year, and they have a whole new level of engagement. Thank you!
My students LOVE lineriders!! This was awesome to see that you had a resource where they could learn how to make their own! I tried to show students how, but your resource was much easier for them, and they love being able to give it a try on their own and explore in music. Thanks!!

Description

Create Your Own Line Rider To Music:

This is a fantastic way to get your kids to listen and analyze music. They will have so much fun making their Line Rider, that they won't even know they are learning about mood, dynamics, etc. My sixth graders were obsessed with this project. Many even worked on it at home during their spare time! This project will take several days to complete.

What is Line Rider?

Line Rider is a free internet designing game.  It was originally created in September 2006.

The basic concept is to draw one or more lines with the mouse on which a boy (referred to as "Bosh" by the creator) on a sled. He can ride after the player presses the "Play" button.

The game includes simulated physics, which means the track must be sufficiently smooth to prevent the character from falling off the sled. Adding music makes this even more fun!
Students will design the ride of Bosh to fit the music. Check out the video to see what it's all about! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIz3klPET3o&t=27s

Adding Music to Line Rider:

Once students have practiced the basics of line rider, they will choose a piece of music. I have a list of 30 pieces students can choose. Students will need to listen to their piece many times and figure out how to make their line rider go with the music. Before they begin, Student will answer questions on a google slide about their composer and piece (14 questions). Their are many tutorial videos and a list of instructions to help students create.
