Description
PART OF A BUNDLE: Create Your Own Cookbook and Design a Workout BUNDLE
This product is designed to help intermediate students understand the importance of healthy eating. Students will start out with a refresher of the main food groups, and track their eating for a week to see what their eating habits are like. Next, students will learn about foods that can be swapped for a healthier diet. They are also given activity cards where they take on the role of Dietician and plan a healthy meal for fictional celebrities. Finally, students will create a healthy class cookbook; the objective is for them to take a traditional recipe that may not be healthy, and substitute certain ingredients to make it more nutritious. Lastly, students will take a unit test.
Part of this unit has students researching healthier substitutes, such as apple sauce instead of oil in baking. The main objective of this unit is to show students that they can improve the nutritional value of what they eat, without completely swapping out all the good stuff!
As a bonus, they'll go home with a healthy cookbook full of recipes to try!
Due to the research nature of this unit, and the fact that students will be creating a recipe that involves a lot of writing, this unit is most appropriate for upper intermediate grades.
