What educators are saying

This resource was such a hit with my students! We used in for our ecology module and had such a fun time. It is engaging and creative.
My students enjoyed this project! It really helped them to connect the dots between adaptations, symbiosis and food chains!

Description

Create A Creature Ecology Project

Students will demonstrate mastery of the ecology unit by completing this project, which focuses on integrating adaptations, symbiosis, food webs, and more. The project is highly creative and should result in unique products for each group/student. The Teacher Guide provides more information on how to prepare and implement the project, but it is fairly print-and-go and can be completed as an individual or group project depending on the needs of your class. I take 4 days (45 minute class periods) in class to complete this activity, but the timing may be different depending on your class set up. This resource includes a complete Teacher Guide (set-up, printing guide, differentiation options), student packet with directions, and the rubric I designed for my classes. There is also a blank rubric you can fill in with different point values or you could come up with one of your own if you prefer.

What does the project involve?
- Students will roll a die to determine the conditions under which their organism lives
- Students will give their organism a common name + a scientific name
- Students will illustrate their creature in its environment
- Students will create and explain two adaptations for their organism
- Students will build a food web containing their organism + many others
- Students will illustrate a comic strip to show the symbiotic relationship of their organism

Due to the nature of this product, the full version is presented as a non-editable PDF. However, there is a portion of the project that is editable (Part One Categories + Rubric) which will be provided as a PPT file for your editing needs.
