    Description

Crash by Jerry Spinelli is one of my favorite novels to read with 6th graders. It is funny, the characters are witty, the setting and plot are relatable, and the ending is unpredictable—all characteristics of the ideal text to share with this tricky-to-please level of students.

Because my students and I enjoy this book so much, I created some additional teaching resources for it beyond my typical novel study unit. Your students will be so engaged with the activities in this bundle, they will fly through this realistic fiction book!

This Crash Novel Study Bundle includes all of the following lesson plans and activities:

Crash: NO-PREP Print and Go Novel Unit

    • student pacing guide for chapter reading

    • 15-pages of chapter-by-chapter reader response questions

    • context clue word work

    • setting work

    • character analysis

    • plot structure

    • Story Map

    • Main Idea Chapter Titles

    • LESSON PLANS for easy implementation

    • Answer Key

    Crash Digital Novel Unit

    • Same content as above, but formatted for Google Slides and Google Classroom.

    Crash Reader's Theater:

This CCSS-aligned, 8-character script is perfect for dividing a class into groups and allowing students the chance to perform. They will love showcasing their acting talents while practicing their fluency and reading comprehension. Your students will be working overtime to find text-to-text connections.

This 15-page script and activity pack includes:

    • a novel/script compare and contrast printable as well as

    • reader response questions that focus on the script

Crash End of Novel Test and Assessment:

    • directions and ideas for use

    • 16 multiple-choice questions

    • 9 short-answer questions

    • answer document for test-taking practice

    • answer key for easy teacher-use

    Crash Test Review Challenge Game

Jeopardy-style trivia game you can use for test review. Students select a category and a point value. They are then given a question that they must answer based on the novel.

    Categories in the game:

    • Cast of Characters: Who is who?

    • All Around Town: Setting

    • Who Said It: Identifying quotes by the various characters

    • Guess the Location: Event is shared and students have to recall where it took place.

    • In the Text or Not: Given an event, students have to decide if it took place in the novel or not.

I cover how I implement these Crash teaching resources in this blog post.
