Description

Here's a fun and engaging counting activity to get your students counting objects to 20 in a scattered configuration and identifying numbers. This set of counting task cards will require your students to accurately count objects and identify the number to match the set of objects. Students will be pairing each object with a number and learn that the last numbers show the total number of objects. This set of counting task cards can easily be differentiated to meet your students' learning needs.

Teach your students about counting to cardinality with these Counting Objects to 20 task cards. This counting objects numbers activity can be used to address several early number sense skills such as rote counting to 20, counting objects and number identification from 0 to 20. Students also learn to relate quantities to numbers and answer "How many?" questions. This resource can be easily used with children learning their numbers as well as in special education classrooms. The EASEL assessment is self-checking and can be used as an assessment.

Counting Learning Targets:

  1. Count up to 20 objects in a scattered configuration
  2. Identify the numeral to match the set of objects.
  3. Match the numeral to the number of objects in a set.

Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.
When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.
Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.
