Here's how these coin combinations riddle cards work!

Choosing from a grid of nine numbers on each of the 24 math puzzle cards, your students will determine the secret number by using critical thinking and their knowledge of counting mixed groups of US coins to eliminate eight of the options.

Do you have students who need more challenge or enrichment than your math curriculum provides? They'll LOVE these coin riddles!

A student recording page and answer key are included, to allow for independent use in a math center.

For accountability/assessment, these materials are also included:

* An independent printable page for recording coin combinations

* A self-correcting Easel Assessment with 10 questions

Math skills used in the clues on these coin task cards include …

Count mixed groups of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters both in and out of sequence, using pictures of the coins.

Compare values of mixed coin combinations, e.g., “greater than two quarters plus three nickels”.

Sequence coin group values, e.g., decide which coin group values are
“between four nickels and five dimes”.

Here are some options for using these money task cards!

♦ Solve a riddle card together to focus attention at the beginning of a lesson.

♦ Use in a math center for individual or partner work in counting coins.

♦ Use for whole class review with your document camera.

♦ Use as a skills review rotation, like Scoot or Read the Room, individually or
with partners, with students moving to stations around the classroom to solve
the coin riddles.

♦ Use for morning “bell ringers”.

♦ Use as enrichment for early finishers.

♦ Use the included self-correcting Easel assessment for a quick way to check
on your students' progress.

Please note, only US coins are used in this set.
