Description

The third through fifth grade students in my drama club are at that stage where some of the boys think the girls have “cooties” and vice versa. In this play, the teacher allows the children to settle the question of male vs. female superiority in a classroom debate, where the children must provide facts, not opinions, to offer supporting details to justify their positions.

Who wins? I’m pretty sure you already know, but the children certainly enjoy practicing their reading skills as they act out this humorous approach to an argument as old as time.

This play has 25 roles, ranging from small parts for the shy/reluctant/struggling reader all the way up to starring roles for those extroverts and children who like a challenge. Run time is approximately 50 minutes. Perfect for classroom or drama club use to put a bit of fun into reading!

It is saved as a zip file to include both the play (49 pages including cover) and the signs the children hold up for comedic effect during the debate (14 pages).

I run my drama club as a readers’ theater without much in the way of costumes or props, so nothing else is actually required; however, I am using a fake cake the students are making out of construction paper since the play references a cake. Enjoy!
