Description
The purpose of this Jenga® game is to introduce radical acceptance and the practice of flexible thinking. These important executive functioning skills will be of social benefit for rigid perfectionistic thinkers and children that respond to anxiety by controlling others. Excellent resource for children with ADHD or Autism.
The Jenga® paper slips provide situational and behavioral examples to prompt discussion and to provide opportunities to share personal experiences in the shoes of the "control freak," as well as the shoes of the person being impacted by rigid behaviors. The paper slips to be glued on the wooden blocks introduce the following examples:
CONTROL FREAKS- a rigid behavior caused by anxiety.
CHANGE OF PLANS- an unexpected trigger that causes anxiety, like a transition or loud noise.
GO WITH THE FLOW TECHNIQUES- a brain break activity to practice flexibility.
When playing, before the Jenga® tower falls over, players need to fill up the “Go With The Flow” worksheet with "control freak" wooden blocks that each match a flexible thinking technique. Once matched, players are encouraged to mentally rehearse their flexible thinking. The player that fills their worksheet up before the tower falls wins the title, "flexible thinker."
