This is a fun St. Patrick’s themed activity about music and meter!

The lesson begins with a brief introduction to Ireland and traditional Irish music and instruments. Students will then learn about the role of conductor and conduct in 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4 time signatures along with a variety of Irish music. This lesson has embedded audio clips as well as YouTube videos.

Includes:

-Teacher’s guide

-Background on Ireland and Irish music and dance

-Irish instruments with pictures and embedded audio

-Introduction to conducting and the role of the conductor

-Conducting patterns in 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4, with St. Patrick’s Day theme!

-Sound clips of songs in each meter (a march, a waltz, and a modern Irish song) for students to conduct along

-Interactive activities matching conducting patterns with their time signatures, and matching rhythmic patterns with their time signatures

-Notation for the song “Michael Finnegan” in both duple and triple meter, so students can compare time signature and learn a fun Irish tune.
