What educators are saying

My students loved this unit. We loved the experiments that allowed them to apply their learning hands on.

Description

Within this 55 page packet, is a complete 4-6 week bundle of engaging lessons and fun inquiry-based science activities to support the International Baccalaureate’s PYP theme of How the World Works with the central idea of how changes to the Earths atmosphere are affecting our weather conditions today. The different perspectives surrounding Global warming are investigated too.

I have included the key concepts that each activity is built around: causation, form, connection and responsibility.

Our lines of inquiry :

What is extreme weather?

How does the atmosphere connect with the weather?

How are types of weather connected?

What is our impact upon the weather?

Who is responsible for the damage caused by the weather?

I have designed this for my 5th grade class. It can of course be adapted to suit 4th and 6th grades too.

This trans-disciplinary unit includes hands on science experiments, research activities, creative writing and reading activities all tied together with the skill of collaboration and cooperation.

The unit of inquiry culminates with a summative assessment where the children have to create Public Service Announcement using a form of multi-media technology.

If you are an IB PYP teacher, you may also be interested in my other complete units of inquiry in my store and on my blog.
