Communities Around The World {A Social Studies and Postcard Writing Unit}

What a labour of love this unit is!!!! This is my favourite unit to teach and I just couldn't stop adding to it! I finally stopped at 469 pages!

This unit has absolutely everything you need to teach your students about communities around the world.

For every country I have made a 10 page learning luggage full of interesting facts. I have provided information on: languages, clothing, flag, land form, homes, food, recreation, animals, and interesting facts. The luggage is interactive and students are required to fill in information.

Every country also has a craft with all the instructions and templates ready to photocopy (no tracing needed).

I have included a generic passport template, a world map, and a luggage cover. Every country also comes with passport stamps and luggage stickers.

I have also focused on postcard writing during this unit. I have included the learning goal, success criteria, anchor charts, and rubrics. There are postcard templates for every country.

I have included all the pages in colour for you to display on your Smart Board but I have not shown these in the preview because it would have made the file too large.

All student pages are done in black and white for crisp, clear photocopying.

UPDATED: October 26, 2014

I have updated the Australia section of this unit. I had the privilege of vacationing in Australia for 3 weeks in August 2014. I took some incredible photographs. I have updated the Australian information and added 92 pages (mostly photos) to give your students the true feeling of being in Australia. It is an amazing country!
