This packet was a great way to discuss and explore Columbus and Indigenous People's Day. I live in Oklahoma with many Native Americans and it is critical that both points of view are taught. Activities plus history was a big hit.

Description

Do you need meaningful activities to do for Columbus Day (or Indigenous People Day) to meet objectives in curriculum? Here are enough informational and content related activities to make an integrated day for you and yours. The 10-page non-fiction text, written with primary students in mind, can kick off your day. There is a follow-up graphic organizer and 11 other activities to engage students in a full day of content related math, language arts, and social studies.

You’ll be able to set up workstations with the easy prep that allows you to focus on small group work while other students are engaged in learning about the day while reviewing multiple skills. Pages could, also, be used for homework or sub work. The teaching pages are available in color or black ink options. Printing in grayscale offers another option for the read aloud. While the worksheets are in black ink. Make the day varied and meaningful this year and for years to come!

Represent whole numbers as lengths from 0 on a number line diagram with equally spaced points corresponding to the numbers 0, 1, 2,..., and represent whole-number sums and differences within 100 on a number line diagram.
Count to 120, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral.
Understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones. Understand the following as special cases:
Add within 100, including adding a two-digit number and a one-digit number, and adding a two-digit number and a multiple of 10, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used. Understand that in adding two-digit numbers, one adds tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose a ten.
Given a two-digit number, mentally find 10 more or 10 less than the number, without having to count; explain the reasoning used.
