Description

Students will continue their pathway to researching colleges and trade programs. In this Unit, students develop an understanding that the work they put in now to researching strong colleges and universities will eventually lead to enrolling in a best-fit college and more importantly, set them up to attend a college that will support them through college graduation.

In this unit students will reflect on some of the criteria they already believe is important for the school they attend, understand college selectivity and determine their match, overmatch, and undermatch schools based on their GPA and ACT/SAT scores, re-examine the importance of graduation rate and why they need to be aware of it when choosing a college, recall what a major, minor, and concentration is, and explore different majors and how they relate to careers. This project allows students to dive deep into the schools of their choice, recognize if it is a good match for them, and identify if it is even financially feasible for them to attend.

In this packet you will find:

  • UBD
  • 4 career interest sheets
  • The 8 college research packet
  • The alternative Trade School research project
  • PowerPoint presentation directions
  • Presentation rubrics for the 8 college research packet
  • Presentation rubrics for the Trade school research project
  • Peer evaluation form
  • Speaking rubric.

This unit is essentially a giant project that covers college selectivity, career interest, major interest, financial aid, academic information, activity interest, campus life, trade programs and more and ends in a presentation of their findings. At the end of this unit, students will have a clear understanding of where they see themselves post high school and recognize the colleges or trades programs they plan to apply to.
