Description

The 32 task cards are “clock fraction friendly,” providing opportunities to add fractions with (unlike) denominators 2, 3, 4, 6, 12. A student work mat is included for extra support in solving problems; this mat can be laminated or slipped into a page protector and used with dry erase markers.

Three options are included for record sheets. One provides space only for the answer, using 2 pages. The second option, 4 pages, provides space for student work, asking them to find the common denominators and add, showing their work. A third option is a single page for playing "Scoot!" (Spread cards around room and have students move to the next problem when you say "Scoot!" Students each answer problems on their own record sheets.) An answer key is included. Learn more about Clock Fraction Addition here.

Note: The fraction addition equations in this activity are the same as the equations in
Task Cards or Scoot: Egg Carton Fractions Addition. My class has used both activities to explore different models, using the same equations.

This activity is best used for practice, review, or assessment and works well in a Workbox, Math Station, or as a part of Guided Math. It may also be used in a game of "Scoot!" Please see the Preview for a sample of this product.

Enjoy!

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, 𝘢/𝘣 + 𝘤/𝘥 = (𝘢𝘥 + 𝘣𝘤)/𝘣𝘥.)
