Clinical Psychology Case Study Diagnosis & Treatment Plan Lesson: AP Psychology

This interactive lesson engages students in a hands-on exploration of psychological disorders, offering students the opportunity to apply their knowledge from the Clinical Psychology/Abnormal Psychology Unit to practical, real-world scenarios. My students find this lesson engaging as they bridge the gap between textbook learning and real-world application.

Through their examination of the included case studies, students will develop critical thinking and analytical skills as they:

• Identify and assess symptoms presented in each case.
• Formulate accurate diagnoses based on their understanding of psychological conditions.
• Design thoughtful and informed treatment plans utilizing a range of therapeutic approaches.

The lesson includes:

• 7 different detailed case studies with an answer key
• A guided worksheet to assess symptoms and create treatment plans
• Brief DSM-5 Notes for 22 disorders that students can refer to while assessing case studies
• A graphic organizer to aid students in organizing and recalling disorders from the unit

This lesson works best at the end of the unit once students have a strong foundation in the different disorders and treatment methods. This lesson pairs well with my Therapy and Treatment Methods Stations which teach students about the various psychological approaches to treatment and include an analysis activity to help them familiarize themselves with specific techniques.

The lesson can be completed independently or can be teacher-led. This is truly a "no prep needed" lesson.
