Clay Ceramics Bust "Selfie" (middle and high school) 1 marking period 8 weeks
- Zip
Description
Hi Teachers,
I use this lesson for middle school and advanced high school ceramics art courses! This unit is part of my Ceramics Curriculum! This unit focuses on Figurative sculpture.
This unit/lesson does not teach beginner level techniques. This unit it is for students who already have knowledge on working with ceramics, clay and understand fundamental hand building techniques.
Teach students additive and subtractive sculptural methods, and hand building ceramics techniques by inspiring them to create a three dimensional bust "selfie".
Students will apply their knowledge about clay techniques and processes and by creating a bust based on a song lyric or poem to add personal meaning. They should use their creativity to create a human like, mythological creature, or character or out of clay using additive, subtractive, and manipulative sculptural methods.
Students will complete guiding questions and create thumbnail sketches before starting the project. Student will read other student responses and see student work before starting. There are examples of written responses and student work. Your class will critique the work together and read responses to essentially get an idea for how they can portray symbolic personal meaning, by linking their sculpture with ideas from a song lyric or poem.
Students will do a reflection/ artist statement at the end of the unit.
This project will take your students a full marking period (8 WEEKS) to complete and will be the highlighted feature at your school art show!!!! This is a great project to start off the year because this 3D work can be realistic or non representational/ abstract. Show students the powerpoint presentation, there are teacher steps to follow (demonstrations) and students steps (thumbnail sketches, directions and student examples). Everything you need is all included!
