What educators are saying

Our school does morning meeting and closing circle. However, 4K has never had any curriculum for it. These cards were the perfect starting point I needed to wrap up our day.

Description

Classroom community building is important in every classroom, even with our littlest learners. One way to strengthen classroom community is through a daily Goodbye Group (commonly referred to as a Closing Circle). This enriching time of the school day is also perfect for reflection and a consistent routine for ending the day.

What is included in this product?

In this resource, you will get your hands on…

  • 36 reflection cards (color version AND black-and-white version)
  • blank reflection cards (to add your own questions)
  • 3 celebration activities
  • 5 closing songs/chants (with eye-catching visuals to project on your screen)
  • teacher directions and tips

How can this name activity product be used?

A typical Goodbye Group (aka Closing Circle) consists of 3 parts:

  • Reflection
  • Celebration
  • Closing

Reflection: Choose a question from one of the provided reflection cards. Pass an object around the circle and invite each student to share his/her response.

Celebration: Choose one of the provided activity ideas to facilitate with your students. In this way, your students are reflecting on and celebrating their accomplishments and each other.

Closing: Choose a song or chant to project on your screen (if available). Sing together as a group to finish your day strong and on a positive note. A few of the songs include individual student names and, therefore, are perfect for dismissing students in small waves to pack up at the end of the day.

What is so great about this product?

Not only will a Goodbye Group (aka Closing Circle) strengthen your classroom community, it will also be a regular opportunity for your students to reflect on the "glows" and "grows" of their school days. Furthermore, this consistent routine provides structure (and a sense of calm) to the end of your school day.

This resource has 18 pages for printing and/or projecting on your screens. Additionally, it contains more pages with teacher directions, tips, and examples.
