Description

I created this FREE resource as a hands-on way for students to practice classifying/naming the type triangle based on its sides and angles. In this activity, students will sort 30 cards. There are different categories that represent different types of triangles. There will be 5 pieces for each match with a total of 6 problems. The cards include:

  • Name based on angle measurements
  • Name based on side measurements
  • Triangles with congruency markings
  • Angle description
  • Side description

There are 2 versions to print:

  1. 1st version is to pass out to students for them to cut out and match.
  2. The cards are mixed up before they cut them out.
  3. 2nd version:
  • Print each category on colored paper or cardstock.
  • Cut out the sorting pieces.
  • Laminate the pieces before using so that you can use them from year to year.
  • Mix up the pieces and have students match them together with the correct headers.

This activity works great for small groups, partners, or individual work. You can easily check answers using the answer key provided. You can also have student's self check their answers or have a partner check them.

Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category. For example, all rectangles have four right angles and squares are rectangles, so all squares have four right angles.
