Description

Students can complete this activity independently or with a partner if your school is 2:1.

Student use mapquest (or Google maps) to plan a trip for their class. Students begin by inputting their school's address and creating a route with stops in Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana.

Students locate total miles for the trip along with time driven. Then, students calculate fuel costs for one vehicle vs. multiple vehicles for the entire class. Students determine whether the trip could be made in one day, or if the drive time would require multiple days. Students also consider what other costs and expenses (hotel, food, etc.) would need to be accounted for on their trip, along with their estimated costs. Finally, students calculate the estimated total cost of their class' trip and compare estimates.
