Description

This activity should take place after instruction on the election process. Students will bring a stuffed animal from home. The class will hold a mock election, in which stuffed animals are campaigning to win the title of "Class Mascot". The teacher will model how to write a successful campaign speech with the attached example, and students will write their own, from the point-of-view of the stuffed animal. Stuffed animals (the students) will give their speeches in front of the class, students will vote, and a winner will be announced!

This fun activity reinforces teacher instruction about the election process, the concept of democracy, and the importance of voting through an engaging mock election, using students’ stuffed animals. Students are engaged in this activity, because it involves an item from home which they care a lot about. This attachment includes a sample speech to use when modeling for students and
a blank speech writing template.
