What educators are saying

My students love reader's theaters. It's something that we use often to teach science and social studies content. This one was wonderful!

Description

Doing a history based readers' theater with your upper elementary and Jr. High students is a great way to combine reading and learning about the past. 5 Strong Women is an original Civil War readers’ theater that focuses on 5 women who played important roles in both the North and the South during the American Civil War. Read as part of Women's History Month or as a group wax museum activity.

  • Harriet Beecher Stowe
  • Clara Barton
  • Rose O'Neal Greenhow
  • Elizabeth Van Lew
  • Jenny Hodgers

Use this script as a performance during a Civil War Unit in social studies or as a reading task during stations. Even though the parts are all female, it easy to split your class up into groups. Great for oral reading fluency. Allow students to do more research on these fascinating women.

Also included:

•5 part readers’ theater script

•Teacher help pages

•Discussion /Comprehension questions

•Answer key

I hope your students enjoy reading this readers’ theater!
