Description
If using textual evidence is new to your students, or if you just want an easier method to remember or some practice, this easy prep, complete teaching pack is perfect! Teaching students to effectively use textual evidence is crucial for all subjects, and this lesson and its components are easily adaptable for any subject.
Student Experience: This teaching pack is designed to specifically teach and practice the skill of selecting and incorporating textual evidence with a catchy theme and an easy-to-follow three step process: The OREO Method! Students will be provided with definitions, examples, and ample practice to introduce them using textual evidence. Use the traditional PPT guided lesson in class, or have students learn independently with my **new** digital e-Lesson in Google Slides format. Once students have grasped the concept, they will practice it further by "completing" an essay that is missing its textual evidence. Then, students will be able to answer their own text-based questions or write essays with textual evidence using the OREO method graphic organizer for everyday use!
Included:
- Formal Lesson Plan, editable
- PPT lesson format (editable) AND **new** digital e-lesson in Google format (editable) (The e-lesson will be perfect for independent learning, make up work, reteaching, home bound students, online classrooms, or online students.)
- Sample paper and article for practicing textual evidence with the lesson
- Task cards (PPT and digital via Google, both editable) for model paper analysis with sample paper, and these task cards can be used with any paper to continue or reinforce learning
- Sketch notes for during the lesson (not editable)
- OREO method graphic organizer for students to use with any assignment for success after the lesson (not editable)
Classroom success stories from other teachers who have tried this resource:
♥ "Wowsers! When you say a complete teaching pack, you don't mess around! This is uber comprehensive and super engaging. Your students are lucky to have such a creative and invested teacher, TpT is lucky to have such an incredible resource, and our world is lucky to have someone willing to pour so much love into every thing they do."
♥ "My ninth graders loved it. All I'd have to say is "Where is your Oreo?" and they'd realize what they'd left out.
♥ "My kids are going to love the unit; plan on giving them real Oreos for inspiration!"
♥ "For some reason, food and teenagers is always a hit. What an innovative way to teach a concept many struggle with. Thank you for this resource!"
♥ "Excellent resource that we refer back to frequently as we continue our writing through this year."
♥ "So here's the thing about 7th graders....they like to EAT!! Anything that has to do with food will get their attention. Here's another fact about 7th graders - citing textual evidence is NOT their strong suit. Because of these two facts, I was THRILLED to find this lesson on citing textual evidence!! I bought a big pack of Oreos from Costco which made everyone sit up in their seat. I kept holding up the Oreo as a visual and a reference to the Oreo method as I went over the lesson. And, of course, everyone got one when they completed all the tasks in the unit. Needless to say, it was a hit!"
♥ "This has been a helpful resource to use with my jrs and srs. Thank you!"
