This ready-to-print reference supports instruction for citing text evidence for essay-writing or extended responses. Guidelines for choosing and citing evidence are presented in bullet-point form for easy reference, with examples modeling each component of cited evidence. It covers the following:

Purpose & Placement of Cited Evidence
Choosing the Best Evidence
Direct Quotes
Indirect Quotes (paraphrasing)
Signal-phrase citations
Parenthetical citations

It also includes a list of strong verbs that can be used in signal phrase citations as well as tips for including titles (capitalization rules and when to use quotations or underline). It was designed to accompany my lesson on Citing Text Evidence (link below), but it will work well as a stand-alone reference for middle grade writers.
