Description

Liven up your May with this No-Prep Cinco de Mayo Reading Comprehension Scavenger Hunt! It is the perfect way to continue to hone your students' skills in finding text evidence in non-fiction texts.

This interactive, engaging activity is a reading comprehension activity in disguise! Students will be given a mission to decode a secret message, but in order to do that- they must read all 10 reading passage cards and FIND the answers that will help them decode the message!

Your children will be focused on finding all the answers to decode the message and will forget all about this being a reading comprehension activity!

This is perfect for third graders! I have them work in small groups to make it even more fun. Second graders may need help at first, just until they get the hang of where to write their answers for the decoded message. And fourth graders should be able to rock this as an independent activity!

Enjoy this No-Prep Cinco de Mayo Reading Comprehension Scavenger Hunt and take a few moments for yourself while the students are having fun!

HOW IT WORKS:

  1. A “secret mission” is read, and students choose a card to start at.
  2. It does NOT matter what card students begin at because the order of completion does not matter.
  3. The "code word" question on their card will lead them to a different card to find the answer.
  4. They will then record their answer on the answer sheet.
  5. They will continue until all "code word" questions have been found and entered on the Answer Sheet.
  6. Then, looking at the answer sheet, the students will pull all the letters that are in shaded boxes and unscramble them to decipher the Secret Code!

All you have to do is print the reading cards and answer sheet and cut them in half!
