Christopher Columbus Day- Shared Reading PowerPoint Kindergarten and First Grade

Finding materials for Columbus Day for young students is always difficult!! With that thought in mind, I created this PowerPoint for Columbus Day in kindergarten (or first grade) classrooms!!

This PowerPoint has one fact per slide with illustrations to support young readers. Many sight words are used to support early readers as they begin to read nonfiction text.

Title Slide: Christopher Columbus
Slide 2: This is Christopher Columbus.
Slide 3: He was born in Italy.
Slide 4: He was an explorer.
Slide 5: He had three ships.
Slide 6: Here is the Nina.
Slide 7: Here is the Pinta.
Slide 8: Here is the Santa Maria.
Slide 9: He thought the earth was round.
Slide 10: He sailed across the Atlantic Ocean.
Slide 11: He landed in America.
Slide 12: We celebrate Columbus Day in October.

As you can see, this is more difficult than the other emergent readers that I usually post; however, with opportunities for shared reading, kindergarteners can read this successfully and learn about Columbus Day as well. This would also be great for first graders around Columbus Day!!
