Description

This download includes unit 4 of the Reading Through History Christmas series. This unit includes the history of the candy cane, caroling, Christmas decorations, and the holiday shopping phenomenon known as Black Friday. Each individual lesson traces the lineage of the topic and describes how it has become a part of the Christmas holiday and broader culture. For each lesson, a series of five reading comprehension questions are included, along with guided reading activities, Common Core questions, and a free response student writing question. There is also a line graph activity for students to chart recent and predict future Black Friday sales. The lessons are printable, and the download includes everything necessary to fill around four 50 minute segments of class.

Common Core objectives include Key Ideas, Range of Reading, Key Ideas and Details, Range of Reading and Level of Text Complexity, Phonics and Word Recognition, Writing, and Fluency. The packet includes everything a social studies or reading teacher would need to cover four days of class.

The entire Christmas series is available for purchase as one bundle here: History of Christmas Bundle
