What educators are saying

Great passage to use right before winter break. The students loved picking a character and acting their part. Comprehension questions were well written.

Description

The Show Must Go On is a Christmas reader's theater script your middle school students will love! Practice fluency and speaking while incorporating the holiday season into your language arts instruction. This 13 character PDF script includes comprehension questions and word work activities, making this unit a flexible teaching resource you can use in multiple ways!

The Christmas reader's theater resource includes:

  • 7-page script with 13 different characters
  • Context clue worksheet for word work
  • 4 reader response questions
  • 2 journal prompts
  • Snowflake craft idea you can use with other holiday activities
  • Summary strategy organizer

Estimated Lexile Measure: 750L

This script is about a group of 6th grade students that are ready to "graduate" from Merna Elementary. During their last day of school before the graduation ceremony, they reflect/flashback to a time in the year when they ran into a bit of a problem based on one student's silly actions. Poor choices by this one student put the holiday musical performance in jeopardy.

The students work together to come up with a solution so the performance can go on as planned. This high-interest, realistic fiction reader's theater will have your students laughing out loud at the thoughts and actions of the 13-character cast.

Reader's theater scripts are an essential tool for middle school language arts. I use them regularly to enhance fluency, increase student engagement, and sharpen our reading comprehension skills.

If you are looking for a high-interest, realistic fiction, common core focused script with vocabulary work, reader response questions, and a summary answer key, this is perfect for the holiday season!
