What educators are saying

An ode to Christmas! Perfect! Thank you so much for your product. Thank you that your PowerPoint is editable. I did have to tweak the instructions for my 4th grade class as I only want one stanza from them. Thank you for an excellent resource for the holidays!

Description

This activity requires students to read and analyze the 1824 song "O Christmas Tree" and learn about the ode poem. Then you'll have your students write their own ode! Lastly, take students' poetry writing to the next level by having them perform or illustrate their odes. This activity is a simple and silly way to get students thinking creatively before the holidays. It also makes for a fun display of student work!

Included in this product:

  • Powerpoint presentation with definitions of Ode and academic vocabulary
  • Analysis of “O Tannenbaum”
(“O Christmas Tree”) by Ernst Anschütz 1824
  • Brainstorm and rubric for students to write their own odes
  • Teacher answer key
