-Boarding Passes (Formative Assessment)

There is 2 boarding pass options for each of the 20 countries. Staple them together in a convenient booklet or hand out one boarding pass at the end of each lesson.

Option 1: Questions with Word Bank: There are 4 questions that are related to the information presented in the teaching slides and article. A word bank is provided for students to answer the questions. Answer keys are included.

Option 2: ABC Order: There are 4 vocabulary words from the information presented in the teaching slides and article. Students will then have to write the words in ABC order.

-Articles and Comprehension Questions (Formative Assessment)

There is 1 article and 4 comprehension questions (text-dependent) for each of the 20 countries. You can staple them together in a convenient booklet or hand out one day at the time. Students are encouraged to pre-read the questions before reading, use a highlighter as they listen to the article being read. Answer keys are provided. The questions follow the same format each day.

-Passport

Students begin by filling out their passport that includes a photo of themselves and some basic identifying information (just like a real passport). Each time you “visit” a new country students will get to fill out a new passport page that includes the date of entry and notes section. The notes section is where they include 1 piece of information they learned about that country. Students also collect stamps along the way and get to include them in their passport.

-Postcard Writing and Craft

Each time you “visit” a new country have students receive a new postcard. Students will get time decorate and color their postcard. Students are encouraged to address the postcard, color the stamp, and write down 1 thing they learned or found interested about the country they studied. Bonus points for actually giving the postcard to a family member or friend!

-Suitcase

Students create a suitcase that will hold all of their belongings during the Christmas Around the World adventure. Suitcases are made out of pocket folder or construction paper (instructions included). The suitcase holds their boarding passes, passport, and postcards. Additionally, on the back of the suitcase is a world map where students will track the countries they have traveled too. They will get to add a flag stamp to their suitcase after each successful destination.

I have included a lot of personal touches to make this experience meaningful for students!
