Choose an Operation! Word Problem Sort Activity CCSS

Common Core Standards aligned!! Help student decipher what operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to use with this hands-on sort activity. Two versions included with extension activity for differentiation.

Whole Group/Small Group/Center: Have students place large labels as column headers. Students work together to classify the 24 word problems. Students can use extension activity sheet to solve word problems after correct operations are determined. Answer key included for easy teacher observation and checking. As the teacher, all you have to do is walk around and observe as the students figure it out!! All problems are numbered to make group checking and redirection easy. Each operation has six problems.

Challenge/Individual Students/Pairs: Use the word problem strips and sort sheets. Students read each word problem, cut, and glue the problem under the correct operation heading. Great for students who work well independently and for classwork/assessment.
