What educators are saying

I love all of your art projects and this was no exception. My students are engaged, having fun, and learning at the same time. Thank you!
My students were engaged for several weeks completing this. Thanks for adding all the zodiac animals as I can re-use the resource every year.

Description

"Happy New Year" Pop Art Dragon Collaboration Poster with Lunar and Chinese Title Options Included. This art activity is intended to complement/supplement any lessons and/or celebration of the Chinese New Year/ Lunar New Year and Spring Festival. This is a beautiful Chinese New Year 2024 - The Year of the Dragon activity for you and your students.

I have designed this poster with options to allow you to use this poster during your Chinese New Year / Lunar New Year celebrations as well as at other times of the year. Simply by including, or not including, the last column will change the final poster design.

This collaborative poster is the perfect way to start a unit or to cap one off. It is an engaging and entertaining way for students to work together to create a large poster of a beautiful Pop Art dragon—often a center point of your celebrations. The final poster makes a great classroom display and a lasting example of collaboration for your students.

Options: I have included options to use this poster for 12 years. Each year you can use the replacement pieces to adjust the year and Zodiac sign that corresponds to the year on the final poster.

Title Options:

I have included the options for your poster to say "Chinese New Year" or "Lunar New Year."

My Pop Art dragon is easy for teachers and fun for kids! Each student is given one page of the poster to color. Once all sheets are colored and cut out, they are then assembled to reveal a large collaboration mosaic/poster/mural of a Pop Art dragon.

POSTER DETAILS:

For this poster, you will need crayons, colored pencils, or markers in red, yellow, blue, green, orange, pink, purple, light blue, light green, and grey. Any area without an assigned color is meant to be left blank.

Option #1

*Use WITH the last column (column 8).

  • There are 32 pieces.
  • Each piece fits on 8.5" x 11" standard copy paper.
  • The final post makes a 4 x 8 grid
  • The final poster measures approximately 26” x 52,” but the exact size depends on your printer options.

Each Year: If you are using the Chinese New Year/Lunar New Year poster option, then you will need to replace pieces C8 and D8 each year. I have included a simple chart that explains which pieces you need each year. The current contents of this poster will get you to the year 2033 and includes all 12 Chinese zodiac signs for piece D8.

At this time I cannot promise I will update the dates for this poster past 2033. It’s hard to know where I will be in 10 years! However, if I am still making my projects for Teachers Pay Teachers and sharing them, then I will happily update past 2033.

Option #2:

*Use WITHOUT the last column (dragon only — no text)

  • There are 28 pieces.
  • Each piece fits on 8.5" x 11" standard copy paper.
  • The final post makes a 4 x 7 grid
  • The final poster measures approximately 26” x 45,” but the exact size depends on your printer options.

Any Time: You can use this version of the poster—featuring a colorful Pop Art dragon—any time of the year.

Differentiation: Each page of the poster is different—just like your students!

Some pages have more to color than others, some kids can easily color two. Other pages have a lot of little details.

For example, you might give pieces B1 or B2 to a student in your class with a lot of stamina. If you have a student that loves precision they might enjoy piece A8. If you have a student that you think will get overwhelmed by some of the pieces you might give them a piece like A4 or D7.

In other words, use the variety of pieces to differentiate and provide the appropriate experience for each child to achieve success!

Bonus Coloring Page:

Group collaboration posters are a lot of fun and leave a lasting impression. However, students don’t get to walk away with anything tangible to show their families. I have included a bonus 1-page coloring page for your students to have. This is also very useful for early finishers.

If you liked this holiday-themed collaborative poster for your classroom, I have many more like it, appropriate for all different times of the year. For example:
