Chinese Inventions Along The Silk Road Activity and Simulation

This is a fun 2 day activity where students get to travel along the Silk Road looking for mysterious inventions coming out of the Far East.

The premise is that a wealthy merchant has hired you to travel along various segments of the Silk Road. Rumors of impressive Chinese inventions have spread along the trade routes and many people in Europe and the Middle East are eager to learn what they are.

Your job is to travel and look for clues about the Chinese inventions. Keep in mind that you should always be careful, since the Silk Road’s trade routes contain unavoidable dangers.

This is a creative way to introduce Chinese inventions, while also discussing some of the interesting dangers along the Silk Road. The prediction and analytical components of this activity work great with keeping student engagement at a high level.
