China! Dragon—Lesson, Easy Craft, Story of Great Race, 2024 Year of the Dragon

Have your students learn about the dragon’s symbolism in Chinese culture and make an abstract Chinese dragon! Great for Chinese New Year/Lunar New Year. An illustrated Story of the Great Race, one version of how the Chinese Zodiac came to be, is also included.

The art project works for all ages. Finished hanging Chinese dragon craft measures approximately 15” long and will look great on bulletin boards.

This product provides the following, all as Adobe files:

• Introduction to the Chinese Dragon Lesson - in a slideshow format with images that you can project for students while you read embedded lessons on each slide
• The Story of the Great Race - also in a slideshow format with images that tells one version of the story of how the Chinese Zodiac came to be, including why the animals are ordered the way they are
• Process Art Dragon Craft - instructions with images of each step and materials to source
• Templates - printable head and tail shapes

Materials to make one dragon craft are: 1 basic white 9” paper plate plus 1/4 basic white 9” paper plate, watercolor pan set like Crayola with brush, bowl of water and paper towel, a quarter size of gold acrylic paint, cardstock in any color (red preferred if using for Chinese New Year) on which template of head and tail shapes is printed, black Sharpie or other marker, scissors, hole punch, 2 pieces or more of yarn each approx. 8“ to 12” long--can be different thicknesses and textures, stapler, string plus a bit of tape to hang.
